Leather Palm
White
Mule – W. O. Wells created the first leather palm glove in 1928, an
innovation that changed the glove industry forever. The quality of the
craftsmanship and materials set it apart, as it does today, from all other
work gloves.
As for the gloves’ name ... while Wells
moved slowly past a field on a train ride from New
Orleans, he spotted a group of big, strong Louisiana mules. The largest of the
group, a White Mule, caught Wells’ eye. He declared that the glove
would carry the mule’s namesake and it was immediately dubbed The
White Mule. The name, said Wells, was “to stand for strength and hard
work.”
